The Greenlight Project
The Greenlight Project, an initiative of the Lightbulb Trust, is a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting entities that deliver high-impact, arts-based interventions for some of the most deprived and marginalised communities.
Guided by a belief in ‘catalytic creativity’, the project is founded on the principle that engagement with the arts can be a powerful and transformative force for both individuals and communities.
The Greenlight Project has committed to funding the transformation of the main hall into a performance venue, as well as working with the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy to fund the planned Colvestone music hub. Looking ahead, a ‘Hackney fund’ to support local arts-based charities will also be established.
Avye Leventis of the Greenlight Project: “Our goal is to found an arts hub within the building – a new theatre and performing arts space and a music hub as a magnet to draw in artists, be they children or adults. We will throw open the doors to the community. Our goal is to make Colvestone a centre for artistic excellence.”
Supporters of the Music Hub include:
Julian Joseph OBE: “Often, before anything community oriented can be achieved with a building such as the former Colvestone School, it’s possibilities are routinely removed before its artistic potential can even start to be realised. Hackney is in a great position to evolve this former school building into a thriving musical facility and absolutely fulfill a great necessity.”
Sam Shapard a.k.a. Floating Points: “Nurturing this kind of endeavour would bring about vital and exciting opportunities to my fellow Dalstonites. For education and cultural nourishment within the community, I whole heartedly support this application, and have myself benefitted from this kind of program in my youth.”
